The Doghouse Store

For those of you that are waiting for the shopping cart to be activated on www.doghousestore.ca and for the pictures and pricing to be completed, I must apologize ... we have ran into some technical difficulties and cannot access the website to make any changes. We are working to correct this problem, along with our Internet provider and the website builder hosting company. If we cannot resolve the problem soon, then I will have to rebuild the entire website through a different builder. We do hope that it won't be long before the site is fully operational and it can start accepting your orders. In the mean time, we will be happy to accept your questions and orders through the 'contact us' form. We can still access the email account for the website. I will post updates regarding www.doghousestore.ca as they become available.

The Puppies Are Here!

We are proud to announce the arrival of Elfi and Pike's puppies. Elfi gave birth to 5 healthy puppies on Sunday October 4th, 2009. She had 3 boys and 2 girls. They appear to be black, black sable and dark sable. This picture was taken when they were 9 days old. There eyes are open now and they are all doing very well. You will find links to Elfi and Pike's pedigree's on my website at www.stormymagicshepherds.com

Pike's Dog House

Pike got to move into his doghouse on Oct 3rd. This doghouse is fully insulated (roof, walls and floor) to keep him warm in the winter and cool in the summer. This house has also been elevated slightly off the ground to keep it dry. The air can circulate under the doghouse and no water can run into it. The doggie door was also installed for added protection against the elements. The roof is hinged for accessibility. This is a very simple plan with wood siding. Pike is the type of dog that would not be too happy with a lot of frilly extras. He is a large German Shepherd weighing in at 110 lbs.. This house was built especially for him, just as future doghouses will be built special for the dog that will reside in it. Next week, construction will begin on the female's doghouses. I am hoping to make their houses a bit fancier.

Pike's Doghouse

Pike's doghouse should be done and set up tomorrow. I still need to give it a couple more coats of stain. All I need is a nice, dry, sunny day. As this one is getting built, we are perfecting our design. I think everyone will be happy with the finished product -- I'm sure Pike will be. The shopping cart on Doghousestore.ca will be activated by the end of the week.

Puppies on the Way!

Elfi is only about 2 weeks away from her new litter. She is doing very well. We are very excited to see the outcome of Elfi and Pike's puppies. This is the first time these two have been bred to each other, however, Pike has a long list of producing remarkable puppies and Elfi produced very well tempered puppies on her previous litter that all had very unique markings. For pictures of these two amazing Purebred German Shepherd Dogs, check out there website at StormyMagicShepherds.com

And the Building Begins!

I will be building Pike his very own custom doghouse this week. Once completed, I will activate the shopping cart on doghousestore.ca . I will have pricing for the different sizes of dog houses that we offer and a few of the different options available. Once the shopping cart is active, you will be able to order your very own custom dog house. I will also be sure to post pictures of the dog house.

Dog House Store

I have been working hard to get our store up and running. We will be selling custom built dog houses. We plan to offer small, medium and large dog houses, with three different roof styles. They will be custom built when your order is received and shipped out with easy instructions for final assembly. We will be looking at a 3 - 5 week delivery time on the custom built dog houses. For those of you that want one right now, we will also be offering pre-built dog houses. I hope to have our store up within the next week. Watch for it.

Run-Away Dog

There is nothing more heart wrenching then coming home to find that your dog is gone. You check the dog house, you call his name, you whistle, you can't find him anywhere. Did someone steal your beautiful dog or did he wander off and can't find his way home? Years ago, we had a dog that liked to chase thunder. We would be gone to work and a storm would blow in, and by the time we would get home, Gizmo would be missing-in-action. After looking everywhere and going to all of the neighbors within a 5 mile radius, we would phone the radio station and offer a reward for his safe return. After this happened a few times, our hearts couldn't take it anymore and we had to put up a large kennel, that we attached his dog house to. Our poor Gizmo, then had to stay confined while we went to work. I wish I knew then, what I know now.

Now days you can keep your dog and your heart protected with Animals GPS. Animals GPS offers handy little gadgets to keep you informed of your dog's where-abouts at all times, with special alerts when there is a problem. This is the easiest way that I have found to have the peace of mind, knowing that your loved one is at home in his dog house.

A Trained Dog Is A Happy Dog!

One of the most important aspects of pet ownership is the responsibility to train your dog. The sooner you start the training process, the better. All of those things that you find cute when your dog is a little puppy, aren't so cute if your dog grows up to be 100 lbs. and is still doing it.

Picture a 100 lbs. German Shepherd laying in his dog house, out of the rain, watching over the yard. A car pulls into the driveway. He perks up to see who is here. "It's Mom!" He then, at the speed of light, runs over to say "Hello". As your arms full of papers, go flying into the air and your car catches you on your way backwards, you feel a pressure against your chest, then, suddenly you feel this warm and wet tongue caressing your cheek. After you yell, "DOWN BOY" "Get to your Dog House ... Now", then you stop ... looking down at your mud covered jacket and your wet paperwork, all you can think is "I wish I would have listened" "I wish I wouldn't have taught him that jumping on me was cute!"

The answer is YES, I learned the hard way. Training your puppy/dog is very important. It doesn't matter if the dog is big or small. A well trained dog makes for a very happy owner and a happy owner makes for a very happy dog. I have read many books and learned many things over the years, with my German Shepherds, and I can honestly tell you that the best training book that I have ever read is Dog Training For Dummies
. This book covers everything from puppy to adult, dos and don't, and feeding and health. This is one of those books for any dog lover. Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. I found myself reading it again with a highlighter, highlighting everything that seemed to be very important, need to know information. Next thing I knew, I had highlighted most of the book.

Dog Training For Dummies was written by Jack and Wendy Volhard. Jack and Wendy are highly respected dog trainers and, in my opinion, have given some of their best advice, in this book.

The Dog House

Every dog needs a home they can call their own. As a breeder of top working line German Shepherds, I understand the importance of a Dog House. Whether your dog is big or small, mostly spend their time inside or out, they all appreciate having their own dog house. It is very important to have a slightly raised floor in your dog house to keep your dog dry.
